John G. Meador Jr.
Marital Status: Married to my lovely wife Cheryl for 17 ½ years who is by far the backbone and foundation of our very active homestead. She is the general that manages 4 beautiful daughters Mackenzie (15), Morgan (15), Mason (14) and yes the fireball Montana (10).
Employment: Owner/Partner A-1 Striping and Paving Company, Primeco Fence Company and Pinnacle Alliance Fund (Real Estate Development) Lots of irons in the fire but very fortunate to work with a great nucleus of professionals.
My Heroes: Howard Cordray (just kidding) maybe if he takes me on my trip to Africa. Seriously, I’ve got several. First, Memorial Hermann Life Flight that transported several of my friends who where injured in a car wreck 6 years ago. Secondly, Gus Blackshear my step dad a wise and faithful man who walks the walk and talks the talk. A great listener and instrumental in helping me through some very difficult times in my life. Thirdly, my wife and kids who bring joy and happiness each and everytime I’m with them. Fourthly, all of those brave determined inflicted with MS and the great support team of Kickin Asphalt.
Favorite Experience on MS 150 Ride: Watching Howard Cordray a 265 lb. Panda bear suffering up the first big hill crossing the Brazos River. Long training rides with Smith, Porter, Cavender, Janse and Jurek and the 4:30 Am spin classes with Jurek and others. For some old guys we have some very competitive and enthusiastic riders who are a joy to be around. Riding through the park standing up going about 2 miles and hour, barely able to breath and watch this beautiful blonde pass myself, Janse and Smith like we where standing still.
Funniest Experience: Waking up Howard Cordray at 4:15 Am on day two after he drank six margaritas, a fifth of Captain Morgan’s and smoked a pack of cigarettes. What a great pleasure that was but give him credit a true champion saddled up and made it to Austin by 11:30 AM.
Why do I ride: To help find a cure for this horrible disease that has inflected millions. To stay in shape and ride with some of the most gracious, competitive and honorable men and women.

Howard “HARDCORE” Cordray
My wife, Cyndy, and I have three children who are all super mensas. While away from my law practice, I enjoy time with my family and playing tennis.
I have participated in the MS150 since 2006 and am very proud to have fostered a healthy competition of fundraising for the MS150 on our team.
Having been blessed with the ability to ride long distances without any training and under unusual adverse superhuman conditions, I continue to surprise, amaze, and aggravate
my teammates.
My favorite experiences each year during the MS150 are to watch John Meador check my odometer and hear about how John Meador hurries to shower and change clothes so that half of the riders on our team always finish to see him cleaned up and in street clothes as if he has been off road
for several hours.
I ride in the MS150 because I can and because I hope those inflicted with MS will be able to ride again someday.

2008 will mark the 5th time that I have participated in the grueling MS 150 ride from Houston to Austin. The first time I made the ride was over 15 years ago. I did not know what I was getting myself into and did not adequately train. It almost killed me! Fifteen years later I am older and much wiser!
I have really enjoyed the camaraderie with the other team members during training sessions and at the big event. I also enjoy the event itself as the MS Society does such an awesome job of putting it all together. The feeling of crossing the finish line in Austin with hundreds of people cheering you on is almost indescribable. Finally, I have enjoyed learning more about what good we are doing with our fund raising. This has resulted in transforming the event from simply a physical challenge to a meaningful opportunity to make a difference for those dealing with MS every day of their lives.
I enjoy hitting the tennis ball with my best friend and wife Carolyn, riding dirt bikes with my daughter and just hanging out at our house, cooking out on the grill while drinking a cold one. Thanks are owed to our fearless team captain, John Meador, for keeping us motivated and putting together an awesome event.

Tori Pfeffer
I work for Crow Holdings in their Multi-family and land investment group in Dallas, TX.
My heroes? My family … all 40 of them. I have been so blest by their wisdom, example, energy, joy, curiosity, guidance and faith. Most especially, I look up to and admire my father, without whom I would not have made it this far (or at least not this well).
Why do I ride? In 2008, I will be riding in my second MS 150. As was the case last year, I ride to spend time with my uncle, Bill. This year I also ride with a purpose. I want to make an impact, however small, to help and support all those who can’t join us on the ride; to give them hope and joy.
Favorite moment last year? Reaching the top of the last big hill and seeing Austin below … I got butterflies. The wildflowers also made the ride. They were lovely.

Who is my hero and why?
My father, for the way he lives his life by not only saying, but by doing. He is a true example of a leader. I am also proud of my 3 children Sydney, Chandler, and Bryce who pursue their passions with 110% effort every day. I pray for them while a ride.
How many MS 150 bike tours have you participate in?
1, #2 coming up in ‘08
What is your favorite experience with the MS 150?
I like riding into Austin with my OU Sooner socks on my feet and hearing the crowd.
What is your most fun experience with the MS150? Training rides with friends and spending time between the 2 days of MS150 together.
Why did you ride in the MS150?
I would think that most of our team would point to John Meador. I know he pushed me until I gave in and hopped on the bike.

Robert Dickey

Why did you decide to do the MS 150?
My wife made me? I felt that it was a very worthwhile and well run charity and I wanted to spend the time training and competing with my wife and friends.
What is your most memorable moment on your bike?
When I ate it on a training ride or maybe, when I passed the finish line on my first MS 150.
How many times have you ridden the MS 150.?
Last year was my first.
Who are your heroes? And why?
My wife, because she is an inspiration to everyone she has contact with and just trying to hang close to her keeps me in pretty good shape and besides it is a lot of fun to ride or run behind her.

Craig Gentry
I’m 48 years old and have always though of myself as athletic. So when I was asked to ride in the 2007 MS 150, I was up for the challenge. Then it happened, while riding down Congress Ave in Austin, Texas at the completion of my first MS 150 I had the light bulb moment.
The streets were crowded with people cheering and clapping, and my heart was introduced to the purpose of my ride. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system. It does not discriminate, and approximately 200 more Americans are diagnosed with MS every week.
Suddenly, the pain was not so bad, and the training seemed like no big deal, I only wished I had put more effort into raising money and the passion in me was born. This ride is for those people attacked by MS and now I ride for them. Giving feels good, everyone should do it.

Jonina Dickey
Occupation:
Personal Trainer/Fitness Commitment Boot Camp
Why do you decide to do the MS 150?
I have two friends with MS and I wanted to ride for them.
What is your most memorable moment on your bike tour? Crossing the finish line. The emotion that you feel is so overwhelming it’s hard to explain, you really feel like you made a difference.
How many times have you rode in the MS 150?
Three times I had to skip a year because I did not sign up in time.
Who are your heroes and why?
Ummm… I will narrow it down to two. First it would have to be those with physical restrictions who participate in endurance events. As you watch the wheelchair marathoners whiz by you when you are running it makes you think twice about complaining that your legs hurt!
Secondly, I would have to say Robert (sorry, your second). We met at Memorial Park running 16 years old and he was the one who encouraged me to run my first marathon. He trained me, ran beside me and sent out secret letters to friends asking them to come cheer me on. He made sure I had someone at almost every mile marker. To me that is romantic! We continue to do almost every sport together (golf, my least favorite) and he always makes sure I have the best of equipment and he is consistently my #1 fan. He rocked on his first MS 150, which does not surprise me. He is 55 years old and he can still run a half marathon (without training) and drink three margaritas the night before race and hang right beside me. As an added plus he has a really nice body even in those ugly bike pants!

Todd M. Jurek
Marital Status:
Married to my incredible wife Kristen for one and a half years. She is my soul mate and the mother of 2 wonderful children Ethan Hughes (7) and our newest family member, Saige Elaine. Without her love and support I could not accomplish any where near what I have been able to accomplish personally or professionally. She is a compass and a beacon to keep me grounded to the real concerns of life, which are love of God, love of family, and love of your neighbor.
My Heroes:
It is hard to find any real life heroes, so many of mine are the men and women of the bible who inspire me to strive for excellence in my life. Their examples, documented for eternity, serve as a constant reminder of what God can do in your life. My other hero would have to be my mother, who single handedly raised 4 children and none of us ended up in prison! Seriously, raising 4 children ages 11 and under by yourself and working full time is an accomplishment not many can boast having done. Her tireless efforts remind me of the strength and focus needed to raise my own family. Hers was a job well done.
Favorite MS 150 Experiences:
The entire event, from gathering early in the morning on ride day, to the events between day one and day two make the entire experience worthwhile. The new relationships that are created and the old ones that are made stronger by these experiences make me want to ride each and every year. I love the training with my good friend John Meador and the few “stragglers” who try to keep up with our training at the crack of dawn. The competition is sometimes fierce, but it is what makes us want to train. We get in shape, feel great, and our families do benefit from our healthy lifestyle.
Funniest Experience:
The one that sticks in my mind the most was one of my first training rides where my neighbor at the time (who is a great guy and a big off road cyclist more than a street rider) went on a training ride with our team. I think he thought us novices would not be able to keep up with him. Little did he know how hard we had been training. On our ride to Bellville, we hit the first big hill, listening to him push us along to make it to the top, only to find that half way up he could not keep up with us!! Shortly thereafter he disappeared from site, and we later found out he had to turn around and go back. We still laugh about it today, how surprised he was with our riding skills.
Why do I Ride:
I ride for those who cannot ride, in the hopes that one day they can. I hope my contribution, however small, helps in making someone else’s life better. There are many side benefits to why I ride-staying in shape, friendly competition with my friends. Mostly it is because I can help, and so we “Press On” to help find a cure for our family, our friends, and those we don’t know.

Stephen Geis
Marital Status: Married (17 years, 2 girls 15 & 12)
I work at Hallmark Casework. We specialize in laboratory furniture and fume hoods for research labs. Been here 20 years.
My heroes? Hands down, Jesus Christ. I know it’s a movie, but the scene in The Passion where Jesus gets back up after being whipped and beaten to the ground to take more just puts who he is in perspective for me. When you start the list of what he is no one else can even be compared. Sustainer, soldier, warrior, friend, healer, brother, comforter, KING, merciful, kind, loving, just, fair, committed, forgiving, holy, funny, faithful, enduring, everlasting and on and on the list goes. His list is longer than anyone else.
My favorite experience with the MS 150 bike tour?
After I crossed the finish line I was coasting along near the right side of the crowd lining the street and all of a sudden the faces of my wife and two daughters appeared. I was totally surprised because I had no idea they were going to be there.
Funniest experience? All of the different personalities on our team and watching them interact.
Why do I ride? Enjoy the time with old friends and making new ones. I am really looking forward to being linked up this year with someone who has MS and sharing that with my daughter. After seeing me cross the finish line last year she said she wanted to ride with us. We are ready to go.

Gregg Carroll
Marital status: Jill, my lovely wife of almost 9 years. One child, Zoe, a four year old Shih-Tsu.
Employment: A-1 Striping & Paving. I have had the opportunity to work in sales for A-1 for 2 ½ years. It has been a great learning experience for me and I work with a great team who truly are A-1 both personally and professionally.
Why do I Participate: This will be my third year but not as a rider. John Meador asked me to cook for the team, and so far everyone is still alive. I could not do it without the help of so many others. Last year Carrie Duke, Rachel Long and Tamra Wartell did so much to prepare for meals. All I had to do was burn the meat. These gals do so much behind the scenes to make our team the flagship. It is our way of being a part of this dedicated team and to support them in the worthwhile cause to find a cure for MS.

Carrie Duke
Chief Financial Officer of A-1 Striping & Paving Company and logistics expert for Team Kickin’ Asphalt.
Although I’ve never actually ridden in the MS150, it’s very likely that I spend more time preparing for the ride each year than most of the actual riders. Keeping up with our Team Captain’s need to top himself every year always keeps me busy.
Being one of the few team members that has been around since Kickin’ Asphalt was just a glimmer in Meador’s eye, it’s amazing to see how this team has grown in the last four years and how much money has been raised by our team members for the fight
against MS.

MARK A. RAHRER
Marital Status: I have been married for 22 years to my wife Kathy. I, like many others on our team, have been very blessed with two beautiful girls, Rebecca (19) and Kaitlyn (13), going on 21.
Employment: I am part of the A-1 Striping and Paving sales force. I love where I work all in part to a great nucleus of people that are part of the A-1 team. (The boss man is a pretty good guy to work for.)
Who are your heroes and why? I think my real hero is my father. He just turned 80 and is in excellent health. He is very active around the house, on the golf course a couple of times a week, and still has breakfast with some of his buddies from work once a week. He was a life time employee at Tokheim Corporation, where he retired with 50 years of service.
How many MS 150 bike tours have you participated in? I was one of the original 8 when we first started and have been in every one since the inception of the team.
What is your favorite experience with the bike tour? The finish line!! Nothing like the feeling you get (chills) when you cross the finish line and 10,000 devoted fans and volunteers of the MS150 are cheering you on.
What is your funniest experience with the bike tour? Every time we spent the night in La Grange was a great time.
Why did you ride in the bike tour? I don’t think one can quite understand the impact of the adventure that you have committed to until you are huffing and puffing to reach the top of the hill that seems like it is 5 miles long. Once you reach the top, there is some sweet little lady in her wheelchair on the side of the road in the hot sun cheering you on and telling you what a great job you are doing and telling you that you can do it. THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT!!!

My name is Mark Lange and I am 44 years old. I am married and have four children. My life is busy and blessed. We are healthy and happy. I am riding in this year’s MS 150 for several reasons. The most important is to support the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. It is also important to me that my children see me setting a goal, preparing for it and reaching it while also making a charitable contribution to a good cause. Austin or bust!

Who are your heroes and why? My Dad because I admire the way he handles people and situations. He is also really wise and knowledgeable about everything. My other hero is God, just because he really is incredible. He is my Lord and Savior.
How many MS 150 bike tours have you participated in? This year will be my first.
I am riding because my dad rode last year and I wanted to do it with him this year. I also love riding my bike and doing it to help people with MS makes it even better.

Angie Carl
Married to David Carl
Controller for Mac Haik Enterprises
2009 will be my 7th ride to Austin. Three of my friends have MS and are my loyal pedal partners. My first ride was in 2002. Initially, I did the ride for the challenge and the overall experience. In 2003, I wasn’t able to train so I didn’t ride. I felt so left out that I haven’t missed a ride since then! The MS-150 has become a part of my life, and raising money to help find a cure for MS is one way I know I can make a difference. Plus, it gives me motivation to exercise!
Each ride has been special in its own way but if I have to pick a favorite, it would be 2006. I trained with David (my fiancé at the time) and Rebekah (David’s daughter) who both rode for the first time. We all crossed the finish line together on my 50th birthday, and one of my pedal partners met me at the finish. Stephen (David’s son) also met us at the finish and brought a birthday cake for me. We had a great celebration at the 300 Club reception following the ride.
I continue to ride because I believe my fundraising makes a difference, and I enjoy the camaraderie associated with the cause and the ride. There are so many outstanding people that I have enjoyed meeting along the way. Each year represents a new challenge and yet another adventure!

Marital Status: married
Wife: Angie Carl
Employment: Q10 Kinghorn Driver Hough & Company (commercial mortgage banker)
My Hero: My wife, she does everything and makes my life so wonderful
Favorite Experience: Always love the bag pipe guy on Sunday morning, it just sets the right mood for the day.
Funniest: Riding through Fayetteville last year there were two young guys (21 years old) enthusiastically running from their parked car to their lawn chairs each with a 12 pack of bear under their arm. Their eyes met mine as they were settling into their thrones, ripping open the first of their cherished bounty, and we all just started to laugh knowing how different each of our afternoons were going to be. They offered me a beer but Angie made me keep on riding.
Why do I ride: Initially it was because it was a challenge, now it is because there is so much research being done to cure MS and I want to do what I can to help. How many times: This years ride will be my 4th.
